Fastest Ocean Animals

- Sailfish

The sailfish is one of the fastest animals in the ocean, the fastest speed recorded was 68 miles per hour, or 109 kilometers per hour. Sailfish can grow 4-5 feet long in one year. They live in warm and temperate waters, and can raise their sails to look bigger and more intimidating then they actually are.

- Swordfish

This fish looks similar to the sailfish, with one of the differences being the sail on the sailfish's back. The swordfish is slightly slower, with a max speed of 60 mph, or 97 kph. They live in warm, tropical waters. They are pretty big, sometimes reaching 10 feet in length, and can live in waters as deep as 1,800 feet, or 550 meters.

- Marlin

Another similar fish, the marlin, is bigger, reaching sizes of 16 feet long. They can swim up to 50 mph, or 80 kph. They like to stick to tropical waters.

- Yellowfin Tuna

This fish can also swim up to 50 mph, or 80kph. They can do this by folding their fins into indentations. There are many tuna species, but the yellowfin is the largest, coming in at 400 pounds, and it lives in tropical oceans.

- Pilot Whale

The pilot whale is the second largest dolphin. It can travel up to 47 mph, or 76 kph. It can dive 500 meters deep, and feeds on fish, squid, octopus, and crustaceans. They are very sociable and intelligent, but sadly they beach themselves a lot and nobody knows why.

- Shortfin Mako Shark

My personal favorite shark, and also the fastest shark species. It can swim 47 mph, or 76 kph. They are 10 - 12 feet long, and can weigh 132 to 300 pounds.
