Japan is planning to dump its nuclear waste into the ocean. It is estimated that there will be more than a million tonnes being dumped into the ocean. All the waste is from the Fukushima nuclear accident, which is the worst accident since Chernobyl. Every day there is more and more waste being produced and less and less space to store it, and that is why they are dumping it.
This could be catastrophic to the oceans around Japan. It can contaminate the water and be very toxic to the organisms living in it. This can make the animals in the area very dangerous, to eat too, and that would be a huge problem because Japan is huge on seafood. Another problem is the fishermen that make their living from the ocean could lose their job, as well as many other jobs.
Another factor is that it could affect the organisms. The organisms living in the area could get contaminated, which could make them diseased or even kill them.
