Anatomy of a Shark

1. Pectoral fin - the pectoral fins control what direction the shark moves, up, down, left, and right.

2. Pelvic fin - The pelvic fins keep the shark from rolling over and balance it.

3. Anal fin - The anal fish also help to keep the shark balanced.

4. Claspers - Only males have claspers, and it helps them hold on to the females while breeding. The claspers are basically a shark’s penis.

5. Gills - gills are what sharks use to breathe. Some shark species, like the Great White Shark, need water to keep flowing over their gills to breathe and will die if they don’t move.

6. Dorsal fin - Dorsal fins stop the shark from rolling, and it also helps when the shark does sudden turns.

7. Second dorsal fin - The second dorsal fin helps maneuver the back of its body more easily.

8. Caudal fin - The caudal fin, or a shark’s tail, propels it forward. Sharks cannot swim backward unlike some bony fish.
