Every Fish Pokemon EXPLAINED

- Magikarp

- Magikarp is based on the asian carp. Asian carp have the ability to leap up to 10 feet if frightened, which is similar to its pokedex entry in Pokemon Moon, saying that it can jump very high. Its mythological origin is a fish that would try to leap over a gate to turn into a dragon

- Horsea, Seadra, Kindra

- This evolution line are based on seahorses. They are actually classified as "dragon pokemon", but this is because in Japanese myth, leafy sea dragons can turn into dragons, which is why kingdra is a water/dragon type.

- Skrelp, Dragalgae

- Although Dragalgae loses its water type, its line is still based on leafy sea dragons, which is why Dragalgae is a dragon type.

- Remoraid, Octillery

- These pokemon are based on a revolver and a tank, but turned into a fish and an octopus. Remoraid is also based on a remora, which is a type of fish that sticks to larger fish and eats the scraps that they leave behind. This is why remoraid is seen attached to mantine in some sprites. Another reference might be the archerfish, which shoots water to knock bugs into the water.

- Mantine, Mantyke

- These pokemon are based on manta rays mixed with fighter jets. This is why remoraid (a gun) is attached to them, not only because its a remora, but also because its the gun on the plane. It may also be based on flying rays, a type of ray that likes to jump out of the water, hence it's flying type.

- Feebas, Milotic

- Feebas and Milotic are based on the tale of the ugly duckling. This is why feebas is super ugly and is an awful pokemon (although I might be biased), and why milotic is so majestic. Feebas is a bass, while milotic is a sea dragon.

- Goldeen, Seaking

- These pokemon are based on goldfish or koi, as well as one of the hindu gods, vishnu's, avatars.

- Huntail

- Huntail is based on many different deap sea hunting fish, such as the viperfish and dragonfish.

- Gorebyss

- Gorebyss is based on snipe eels, pipefish, and oarfish. It is also based on the longnose chimera, which is what it looks like the most.

- Chinchou, Lanturn

- These pokemon are based on anglerfish, which like to lewer in prey with light in the deep sea.

- Luvdisc

- Another pokemon that I really really really hate, is based on the discus fish, but in the shape of a heart. They could have made a cool discus with cool patterns and an interesting evolution, but they just made this dissapointment.

- Alomamola

- This pokemon is based on the mola mola fish, also known as a sunfish.

- Finneon, Lumineon

- These pokemon are based on butterfly fish.

- Basculin

- These pokemon are based on bass. A fun fact is that the only reason they were made is because unova had too few fish pokemon. Basculin has gotten a new evolution however, basculegion, which is really really cool.

- Carvhanna, Sharpedo

- One of my favorite pokemon, sharpedo is based on a shark, mixed with a torpedo. Carvhanna is based on a pirhanna.

- Quillfish

- Quillfish is obviously a pufferfish, and nothing else. It now has a hisuian version.

- Barboach, Whiscash

- These pokemon are based on catfish and loaches, like the dojo loach and khuli loach.

- Tentacool, Tentacruel

- These pokemon are squids mixed with jellyfish.

- Frillish, Jellicent

- These pokemon are both jellyfish.

- Bruxish

- A filefish/reef triggerfish hybrid, which are also the state fish of hawaii. The pokemon however, is absoultely disgusting.

- Wishiwashi

- Is based on a sardine, which can group up in schools.

- Relicanth

- Based on a coelocanth, which is a rare living fossil. These fish have been around for 410 million years.
