How To Make a Skin For Deeeep.io

Deeeep.io is a popular Io game. If your favorite animals/species aren't in the game, you can actually make skins for the game and submit them, and the devs might or might not add it to the game.

Step 1.

Step 1 is to actually make the skin. I will be showcasing a yellow-bellied sea snake skin I made for the boa constrictor. I recommend getting the sprite for the skin so you can make the skin over it. You can get sprites by going to deeeep.io/beta/assets/characters/the name of the animal you are making a skin for. You can use any program you like for this step.

Step 2.

After you have made the skin, download it, and if it has a background, use a background remover like remove.bg. Then, log onto the deeep.io creators center, and log into your in game account. (if you don't have one, make one)

Step 3.

Go to the tab on the left side of the screen, and press create. This should open a menu where you can upload your skin. Name it the name of the skin you have made.

Step 4.

Upload your skin using the file imput tool. If there is an asset, like in the anaconda skin, go to that tab and upload the skin for the asset separately. Drag your image over the sprite, covering it. You can change the size of it using size scale.

Step 5.

Now set a price for your skin. This is the amount of coins people will have to pay in game to get your skin. Make the price realistic, of course. Select a category for your skin. If it is a real animal, choose realistic, if its fantasy, choose unrealistic, and for holiday skins choose seasonal. When I started making skins, I looked at the skins already in game to base my price off of

Step 6.

Now you will need to make a reddit post to r/deeeepioskins. Log in or create a reddit account, go the subreddit, and make a post. The post should be titled with [animal name], and then the skin name. The post should also have the skin, as well as the original sprite, and also include the skin price. Also choose a flair. Here is my example:

The post may be auto removed, but that doesn't mean you did anything wrong, and it doesn't matter whether it gets accepted or not. Copy and paste the link to you post into the reddit link section in the creators center.

Step 7.

Set a description for your skin. It can be anything, including what the animal is in real life, or something else. After this, you can optionally choose attributes. Attributes slightly change the animal that you are making a skin for, but only for that skin. Like it says in the creators center, don't go overboard with attributes, and also make sure that it's balanced, adding one con for every pro. Make sure the attributes actually make sense, too. For example, I made it so my sea snake can live in salt water and reef, and I also made it so that it's slightly smaller, as it's smaller than an anaconda in real life.

Step 8.

Now you are done! Press the save button to officially post it. The skin will now be in your 'mine' tab. It will take a day or two for the results to come out. When it gets reviewed, it will either have a red rejected sign on it, meaning that they won't add it to the game, or it will have a green approved sign on it, meaning that they will add it to the game at some point, in a later skin batch.

An example of a rejected skin that I made

An example of an approved skin. This is actually the skin I used as an example in this blog post! looking forward to seeing it in-game sometime

That concludes this tutorial on how to submit skins for this game. This game is still in beta, but it has a thriving community and tons of skins being submitted daily. I will make other tutorials for this game, such as making skins/maybe even a guide to playing it.
