Sturgeons!

Sturgeons are an amazing type of fish that have 27 different species, and are found in both saltwater and freshwater. Sturgeons live in Russia, Ukraine, and North America. (mainly freshwater, however.) Sturgeons live about 50-60 years, and start breeding and spawning at ages 15-20.

The largest sturgeon ever recorded was a beluga female that weighed 3463 pounds and was 7.2 meters long. Sturgeons have armor called scutes covering their body, as well as 4 barbels, which all catfish have. Barbels are little 'whiskers' that let catfish feel around on the bottom to find food. Sturgeons like to eat Shellfish, Crustaceans, and Fish. They evolved during the Cretaceous Period, and 85% of sturgeon species are in danger of extinction today. Many sturgeons are almost extinct because of people wanting their flesh, as well as caviar. 2 species of sturgeon are extinct in the wild, and one is probably extinct in the wild and in captivity because there hasn’t been any sightings in 61 years.
